West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming

Concerning the box car roof, somewhere it encountered a hard impact and the load bounced up hitting the roof.

Or a fork lift operator 'raised the roof' with his forks!Tim wrote:Concerning the box car roof, somewhere it encountered a hard impact and the load bounced up hitting the roof.

My guess as well. Confined space? What confined space?Doktor No wrote:Or a fork lift operator 'raised the roof' with his forks!Tim wrote:Concerning the box car roof, somewhere it encountered a hard impact and the load bounced up hitting the roof.

Was in Hartford yesterday and business on the West Michigan has increased. The rubber recycling place had three cars ready for pickup, and at least 2 dozen tank cars on the branch. I know they are loading corn syrup but there must be another reason for so many tank cars. They were actually switching behind Hansens Logistics with tank cars and large covered hoppers. The line has been rehabed as far east as CR681. Have seen no sign that they will go farther east yet.

Back a few years ago they used to store tank cars that hauled aircraft de-icing fluids...obviously not needed this time of year. I have no idea though...if they're doing that now.

No tank car storage, they're all revenue cars.

No corn syrup either. Fun fact of the day, there are no corn syrup production plants in Michigan. I personally have never seen one that isn't directly on rail.

It may not be a production plant, but there is a ADM Corn Syrup Terminal in Battle Creek!Mike H wrote:No corn syrup either. Fun fact of the day, there are no corn syrup production plants in Michigan. I personally have never seen one that isn't directly on rail.

They unload, not load corn syrup & at least at one time a smaller amount of granular sugar. It's not like they are going to unload it at Battle Creek, then truck it to Hartford to be loaded back into cars lol.NS3322 wrote:It may not be a production plant, but there is a ADM Corn Syrup Terminal in Battle Creek!Mike H wrote:No corn syrup either. The 3 high side gons are for the WMI. The tanks might also be for them as well.

The boxcars go to Menasha in Coloma. D700 had 1 in & 1 out lately. I'm just guessing, but in years past it seemed like they probably didn't do more than 12 cars a year if that. The past few months they seemed to have been getting cars more frequently, but definitely not in a consistent manner. I kind of thought they had given up on rail so it's nice to see them getting cars again even if it is only once in a while. It definitely adds some variety to the train south of Holland.

Was Cadbury-Schweppes, then Dr. Pepper-Seven-Up Bottling Group and now they merged with Keurig in 2018 and are called KDP aka KeurigDr. PepperDoktor No wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 9:14 amAmazing...or not. I know they were bought out by Schweps and perhaps again after that and closed..gee, a couple tanks a day of corn sweetener went in.SD80MAC wrote:Most of that spur has been gone quite a while. WMI has now begun rehabing rail east of CR681. Still lots of tank cars. The plan is to rehab their way east to Lawrence. The day I saw them interchange with CSX they recieved nine cars.

All of the tank cars east of 681 are storage cars. Construction of a new spur for transloading at 59 1/2 St begins soon, too.

Re: West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming
Having read the last few pages of this thread and looking at google aerial images.
Why are they doing track work to Lawrence?
Re: West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming
To bring in more business and expand?
The track ends just shy of 56th street. Its just under a mile between 681 and end of track. Technically anything East of 681 is considered Lawrence.
