Re: Your BBS ate my message.
Not too many have ran into issues when posting and something goes haywire making the post go away, but I'm sorry you did. I'd highly suggest that if you are typing up some long response, do some in your word editor or notepad. The message board does have a "save" option at the bottom that can come in handy, but I use notepad myself.
For someone that seems to know a lot about phpBB boards, I'm surprised at your anger towards losing a post when it appears you know how a php webpage is designed.
As a side note, I increased the script timeout from 6 to 15 minutes, but don't take that as a reason to not use some other program to type up longer replies.
Main reason for having a timeout? It's called system resources... can't have a stuck script eating up memory and CPU cycles when there's plenty of other users that want a good performance on here.

Re: Your BBS ate my message.
Quite right, I know my way around phpBB forums. And it occurs to me why I'm so annoyed. I believe this forum's behavior is unusual. Most, when you hit "submit" and land on the blankity-blank login screen, you can hit "Back" and get back to your message, select all, copy, then re-login and repost. With this site, when you hit "back" to get back to the editing page, it immediately redirects you to the login screen. This has the effect of removing the editing page from your browser history - it's no longer there to go back to. Try it sometime. Log out, relogin and don't check "stay logged in", start a posting and in a few hours try to submit. Maybe there's some crazy redirect in there, or, the posting page has a flag set telling the browser not to cache it, and when it refetches it goes "hey you need to log in". Whatever is happening, I don't believe it happens on most phpBB forums.railroadfan wrote:Not too many have ran into issues when posting and something goes haywire making the post go away, but I'm sorry you did. *shrug* I don't know, seems like most posters just tend to write 1-2 liners like this was a chat room, maybe I'm the strange duck in this particular forum.
Well that's fair enough, but it seems strange that a user not yet timed out should tie up system resources. But you did not write phpBB so I won't bother you about that. Thank you for replying and for running the board. As a side note, I increased the script timeout from 6 to 15 minutes, but don't take that as a reason to not use some other program to type up longer replies.

I've had an issue with is lately but not really in the past. I haven't changed my posting habits (length of posting) Perhaps the time out time got shortened by accident?
