Old Railroad Names in Newaygo.

Unread post by PatAzo »

A few weeks ago I had to search for surveys on some property my employer is selling. One of the descriptions refered to bordering on the Grand Rapids, Newaygo and Lakeshore right of way. All of the surveys go back to a "RR Right of Way Stake" in a patch of woods along the river

Yesterday the environmental survey people were making an inspection and had a Sanborn map showing a fuel tank and saw mill where our parking lot was. The map showed the C&WM. (Chicago and West Michigan) was from 1886.

This would be the Sanborn map.

The inspector had an 1886 version of this page. https://www.loc.gov/resource/g4114nm.g0 ... 84,1.096,0 Our building was built in 1912 and shows up in the 1921 map. It's interesting the things that used to be.
