What are our least favorite locomotives?
What are our least favorite locomotives?
Just wondering what everyone's least favorite locomotives are and why.
For me, the standard GEVOs are just so common.

Re: What are our least favorite locomotives?
Never cared for the Fairbanks-Morse locomotives.IMHO, they looked ugly.
Re: What are our least favorite locomotives?
Chopped nose RS2's and 3's
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...
Re: What are our least favorite locomotives?
I’ll see your chopped nose RS2’s and 3’s and raise you a Katy/EMD rebuilt RS3

Camelbacks
Re: What are our least favorite locomotives?
This might be a little controversial but I am not a fan of the new cabs that CSX is putting on the EMD rebuilds. IMHO they are to boxy looking for the otherwise sleek lines of the EMD hoods.

For me, it's Norfolk Southern Dash 9s. They're ugly, they're everywhere, and I won't shed a single tear when they're all gone. I hold BNSF Heritage III Gevos in the same regard.

These:

I don't like how those cabs look on the NS SD70ACC, sure, they are the new ProgressRail Tier 4 ACe cabs that are used on the SD70AH-T4/ST70AH-T4, but the high headlight makes it look weirder, and the fact they put the ditchlights as close together as they did makes it look more odd...

Re: What are our least favorite locomotives?
I'll probably get beat up for saying this. Anything steam powered. Bunch of stink and smoke, hard to find a track to run them on, excursions are over rated. I'd rather be behind a modern diesel.

Ironically bad at Small Talk
Re: What are our least favorite locomotives?
The Siemens Charger. Look like street cars and don't sound like locomotives.

Re: What are our least favorite locomotives?
Anything steam, but I have particular disdain for the Reading 2100.
EDIT: I missed the "... and why" in the original post.
How many (currently active) steam engines pull (revenue) freight? The 1225 might've done so once, more than a decade ago, but I prefer watching freight trains over passenger trains. Nobody in the freight business whines about people watching their trains go by instead of buying tickets to make it run (freight railroaders just whine and complain about people watching their trains in general ).
The founder/first president of the group restoring the 2100 is a tactless, rotten jerk (I prefer another term, but ~Z~ won't be happy if I use it). I associate the 2100 with him, so...it's not so much my 'least favorite' locomotive as much as my 'most hated' locomotive.

Re: What are our least favorite locomotives?
Most wide-cab units with high-mounted headlights except NS units.

Re: What are our least favorite locomotives?
Uh, NS is pretty much the only railroad left with high-mounted headlights on wide cabs.

Re: What are our least favorite locomotives?
U30 and C30s, absolute piles of crap, closely followed by the Paducah GP10 rebuilds that had the upgraded electronics. I base this soley on my misfortune of having the run them.
