A defect detector museum on a website

Anyone who likes the sound of a Defect Detector will like this, because they have recordings of DD’s from shortlines, fallen flags and of course, class 1’s. Now I’m not who’s fascinated with this stuff, my buddy sent this to me, I don’t have a DD fetish

Ha, they have the DD at mp CG108.9 on the Grand Rapids sub-div. :) Title is a bit misleading, with the term "museum" I was expecting to see HBD equipment photos.

They actually do have CG91.9, CG44.2, CG19.1, CH126.3 and CH104.3. Including the old voice. They can be found here: http://defectdetector.net/audio?railroa ... s&state=22, they also have Amtrak DD’s that you may actually be familiar with Tom.

The newer Progress Rails HBD's only transmit on the radio if a defect is detected on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. The data is sent by modems at the DD sites to the Command Center's mainframe computer which will display the info on the dispatcher's screen & automatically drop the home signal at the next Interlocking. There are way too many trains running at the same time on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor in multi-track territory to have the DD sites transmitting info to each passing train. Plus, the radio calls would be stepping over each other, too, as they try to talk at the same time. It's quite common to have 2 trains passing thru a DD site at the same time & at times I have seen 3 trains at the same time passing over the DD's in 3 track & 4 track territory.

Found this video, thought it was relevant for this thread...:)
Older Southern Technologies Sentry scanners & they had combined Transducer "A" & Transducer "B" into one package instead of having them as 2 separate magnetic transducers that detects the wheel flanges that tells the infra-red scanners to "look at a bearing" & "stop looking at the bearing" until the next wheel flange is sensed going by.
