While contemplating that some here need new hobbies,

Unread post by TSB »

it comes as some surprise that noone has gone to Hobby Lobby and bought an RC airplane
equiped with optics that take videos or, better, still shots. The RRs can't claim that a
little plane can steal something. It probably beats trespass laws too. (If you don't land)

In the Predator era it is time for railfans to Cowboy up and go on some Rail Storm excursions.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought you were going to suggest some find something other than railfanning as a hobby and considering how serious some take railfanning I would agree

One of the guys from OH rides in a small plane from time to time and posts his pictures from his trips.

About 20 years ago a friend of mine took me on a plane trips and we railfanned parts of SGVY and your very own TSBY's ex-AA.

So then you'd need to hang onto the controls to make sure you follow the tracks...

So then just use a blimp.

How about a helicopter? Sure it has controls, but a helicopter seems funner to me for some reason.

Hobby Lobby has some with an 8 foot wingspan. They should do real well.

Maybe someone that doesn't live on a fixed income could buy one and bring
it to meets. Or, post some fun shots like going through the Port Huron tunnel.

I have considered buying the air hogs hilicopter that's has a camera in it. It only shoots like 320p and can onld do 5 mins of ideo st a time, but It is only $60. I might try and get it this summer just to try it, I can afford the $60 even thoug it is a "toy" it'd be cool to get those types of shoots.

Sounds like something I should do. My attention span is less than five min.

Trouble is, there are no railroads this far south except that #6<! Seminole Golf.

Buy a helicopter, build a sturdy mechanism to attach your camera to with something better than 320p....

While that is all fine and dandy and looks like fun, you need to be careful as to how you go about this. I know there were a few cases where the FAA hauled in farmers for using the same type of set up to look at their crops. They were hit with operating an un-manned aircraft. I know CERY can shed some more light on this.
