Jim Adams died on November 16, 2024. Jim was a lifelong Michigan railfan and model railroader. He was very active in the Michigan Railroad Club in the 1950's and 1960's, often as a train/car attendant on many of their steam excursions in Michigan and Ontario. He was an accomplished photographer especially with wide format black and white. He had a side business enlarging negatives to poster size prints and advertised in TRAINS Magazine into the 1970's. In 2000 he started working part-time on the Adrian & Blissfield Rail Road, eventually becoming a conductor and licensed engineer. He was instrumental in starting up the operations of its subsidiaries, Detroit Connecting, Lapper Industrial, Charlotte Southern and the Jackson and Lansing Railroad, of which he was an Assistant Superintendent for its start up in October 2011. After retiring from the A&B he was very active with the Steam Railroad Institute, Project 1225, in Owosso, helping to rebuild 1225 in that period and, with his wife Lynn, as a car attendant on the Polar Express excursion trains. For years Jim was very active with many of the metro Detroit model railroad layouts and was building his own layout when he died. Quietly and without fanfare Jim contributed greatly to the railroad hobbies in Michigan all the way until his passing. He was loved by all, he had no enemies.
