A 15 minute stop by in Sterling Yard on 5/21/22

Unread post by David Collins »

Yesterday, I was constantly checking HeritageUnits.com to see if NS 8101 (CofG Heritage Unit) was in Michigan, and it wasn't However, I still wanted to see some horsies parked in Sterling Yard, So I gave a buddy of mine (who happens to be the stats guy for my High Schools Football team AND a conductor based out of sterling) a ring asking him if he was nearby, and also asking to do some drone shots in the yard if he was around, I got the green light from him and decided to make a quick run up there to get some photos of two locomotives (A GP38-2 highhood and an AC44C6M).

He also wanted me to pass the message onto railfans that are going to go after 8101 that it's probably coming late tonight/tomorrow morning, he was not allowed to tell me why it's taking so long, So I'm not gonna speculate.

Among the places I've flown the drone, Sterling Yard is quite difficult to navigate, low power lines in particular are the issue, So I do NOT recommend flying a drone there, thankfully it's not as bad as the LaGrange, Illinois Metra station, which has trees, power lines and that BIG signal bridge.
