Diggin Ditchin and Plowin'

Unread post by CAT345C »

Well I was sitting on my butt yesterday and saw this thing go by my back porch so of course I had to pursue it with Nevets...

They started on the Manistee Sub and worked south towards Wahalla.

I've passed this barn so many times and have been wanting to catch a daylight move that I was not on. I finally did! A farmer would be jealous of this plow!

Very cool! 8) Is MQT just "testing" that for Harsco, or is it theirs?

Testing, this one was built for the Long Island RR, notice the LI lettering on the cab.

Looks like it will be a minute late and a dollar short when it arrives on Long Island, seeing how they just had their biggest snowstorm in year over there

I hope to see more of these in the near future, especially in action. Sure digs ditches faster than the "old fashioned way"

Watch out for those concrete mileposts!!

Very cool photo set. So interesting to see a 2013 version of the Harsco ditcher/spreader and compare it to photos of older Jordan Spreaders. Also great to see Harsco still doing business up the Ludington way. How does it work when they want to test these? Do they pay MQT to "test drive" one? Or is it a fair trade considering MQT gets some of their roadbed re-profiled??

This spreader will be the replacement for LIRR's previous spreader, W93. An older, Standard series, model 2-200, built in 1948. They originally had a pair, but the other was scrapped in the 60s. LIRR retired W93 in 2001, and donated it to the Twin Forks Chapter, NRHS. Twin Forks is slowly restoring it, and 2 years ago I helped them get it back in shape to "play" with it. After sitting for 10 years, it worked flawlessly. I am hoping the pair will be together at some point for a photo shoot.. After retiring it, LIRR has steadily had the need for a new plow for the East end branches, where it drifts pretty badly (they even had a Rotary at one point). I was really hoping to make it up there to see it the other day, but didn't make it. I hope to catch it in action on home rails in the next 2 weeks.
