Two hours in the Quad Cities

Unread post by SW »

A couple weeks ago was working in Sterling, IL, about an hour east of the Quad Cities (Moline and Rock Island, IL, and Davenport and Bettendorf, IA). Flew to Moline and made a quick trip across the Mississippi to the IC&E's Nahant Yard, hoping CP hadn't completely taken over.

Found quite a bit of variety in the south end of the yard...

Then I headed up Railroad Ave. to the north end of the yard, where I was surprised by the Catch of the day, a couple of SOO switchers in different paint schemes!

Crossed back into Illinois and found a trail to go for a jog along the Mississippi in Rock Island, along the Iowa Interstate mainline. Headed southwest along the riverfront, and glad I brought my camera, as a local came into view, with a BNSF work train in the background (it departed soon after):

Sorry for the poor quality; it was overcast and only got darker as rain was moving in.

I like your pictures especially of the regionals and short lines. The SOO engines were a nice catch too. Thanks for posting SW. Rail business in that area looks healthy :)
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...

That SOO 1532 seems to be hanging out over in Nahant yard (or in the area) - it was there when I was back in December:

Those switchers may have been for training purposes. I know of one MP15AC that was used for training new hires.

Speaking of ICE, look at what happened to this poor ole girl in Alabama Monday morning.

Not the 6413's first damaged cab either. It says what happened in the first comment.

Ouch!! That does seem crazy to have a rock slide right as the loco goes thru, very lucky to have no injury with the cab smashed like that!
