Plymouth Sub Grain Operations Q1 2024

Unread post by amessmann »

We have had 12 sets of empty/loaded grain trains since the beginning of the year, 25 total trains counting the latest G077. This post lists all 25 movements with their symbols, destination, power, car count, and the time and place where I had seen them or they were reported from otherwise. I also included a brief notes section.

The trains are listed chronologically meaning NOT grouped into pairs, though this only matters for G126 and G792 of late March. Both arrived on the same day and both left before the run of the next empty, so they do not follow the empty-load pattern.

Code: Select all

G790 to Webberville 5348 + 7767 91 Cars 01/01	Howell 20:08
G789 7767 + 5348 91 Cars 01/03	Brighton 06:41 Stalled at CH 51.

G817 812 + 3120 87 Cars 01/05	Brighton 05:58

G803 7258 + 5366* 90 Cars*	01/17	Webberville 23:16
G126 to Newago 5475 + 738 89 Cars 01/22	Brighton 00:31

G803 4710 + 3080 90 Cars 02/01	Howell 04:52

G791 451 + 87 90 Cars 02/13	Brighton 01:32
G802 to Grand Ledge 3092 + 520 90 Cars 02/20	Howell 01:54
G801 520 + 3092 90 Cars 02/21	Okemos Rd. 21:00
G077 to Webberville 81 (solo) 80 Cars 02/27	Howell 20:12
G789 5315 + 81 89 Cars 03/01	Howell 22:12 5315 brought to Ensel by L303-01.

G789 3319 + 3184 89 Cars 03/24	Brighton 22:44
G126 to Newago 3436 (solo) 90 Cars 03/25	Fowlerville 20:12
G792 to Grand Ledge 3231 + 3086 87 Cars 03/25	Brighton 22:43

L303 160 + 228 84 Cars 03/31	Brighton 18:29 Was supposed to be G125.
G077 to Webberville 5309 + 3362 90 Cars 03/31	Green Oak 19:40
In total 1,066 loaded grain cars were shipped out via unit grain trains. This does not count the small orders that Webberville takes which L305 delivers and picks up. I had made a few graphs to include but I didn't notice any trends. We are still getting around 90 cars per train, some weeks the line sees two outbound loaded trains, some weeks only one, and some weeks nothing. 1,153 empty cars in, and 1,066 out, again counting the latest G077 which would return loaded in Q2.

This quarter engine 7027 made its way up twice, the first time on a G125 and the second on a G804. In addition, 7027 was on a G806 however this train did not run on the Plymouth Sub. 3184 and 3319 made their second appearance in Q2.

I second this, it will be interesting to keep track of at time goes on.

I don’t think everybody appreciates just how much grain moves out of Michigan, especially considering the large chunk of our crops that are consumed locally as animal feed, especially on the west side.

Plus this is obviously only part of it, since there’s traffic moving via the LSRC and GLC on the regular also.

Here here. There’s a lot of grain trains that end up in Toledo from MI on CSX and NS.
