Plymouth Sub Grain Operations Q1 2024

Unread post by amessmann »

We had 12 sets of grain trains run on the Plymouth Sub between 01/01/2024 and 03/31/2024. 25 total trains including G077-31 (more on that later). This post details the
symbols, power, consist, time and location reported, as well as some brief notes. The trains are listed in chronological order, so not necessarily in pairs. Any calculations
I had made only account for unit outbound loads, bear in mind that ADM Webberville does small orders which are worked by L305.

In total, 1,153 empty cars came up on unit grain trains. 1,066 loaded cars departed on unit grain trains. 5 cars were bad ordered on L303-31 (resembled G125), and G077-31 straddles the end of the quarter, its return would run in Q2, both factors skew the data a bit. I had made a few graphs to include however they didn't show any trends. Each train still averages 90 cars, though their frequency has dropped since the beginning of the year.

As I said, the trains are listed in chronological order. Only two trains overlapped this quarter, G126-19 and G792-23, these returned as G801-28 and L303-31.
Engines 3184 and 3319 ran on G790-13. The pair would return on G077-03 on 04/03.
Engine 7027 ran on G804-01, paired with 5929. On 04/04, 7027 would return on a G806 headed to LSRC, engine 237 was paired with it.

I had to rewrite this post after an editing mistake, so if it's different than you remember it, that is why.

I second this, it will be interesting to keep track of at time goes on.

I don’t think everybody appreciates just how much grain moves out of Michigan, especially considering the large chunk of our crops that are consumed locally as animal feed, especially on the west side.

Plus this is obviously only part of it, since there’s traffic moving via the LSRC and GLC on the regular also.

Here here. There’s a lot of grain trains that end up in Toledo from MI on CSX and NS.

10 sets of trains (20 total) in addition to a potash run both ways. 897 empty cars in and 901 loads taken outbound by unit trains.
