Is the former sweet line still privately owned or by the state?

Privately owned from Carson City to at least Pingree St. in Gratiot County. I read somewhere that the owner and friends run speeders on this line. Not sure if that's accurate.

Speeders running on the Sweet line is accurate and here’s a link to a video showing them running.
