Sure, let's turn what is a 4-6 hour car trip from anywhere in the state to an 8-10 hour trip with the disadvantage of not having a car when you get there.

Hey, next year they are doing public meeting along the line for people so they can get excited. So I see a lot of rail fans going to these to crap on these people.

Honestly with the money they spent on this. They can get a train from GR to TC and rebuild tracks on the White pine trail.

Rebuilding tracks over the White Pine Trail would be extremely difficult, mainly due to the railroad not having the rights to do so anymore. The White Pine Trail is owned by just that - the White Pine Trail organization, and with how many people use the trail, I just can't see them being OK with returning that back to the railroad.

It dosen't matter, that's what rails to trails is for, it to preserve the right-a-way. Out east a few railroads put the rail back in where they tore up the rail years ago, thats why the right-a-way is preserved!! Thats the trouble with these N I M B Y people, they take common sense and throw it out the window!!

Ha, they're not tearing up the roads (unfortunately), you can still take your precious little car

No need to be condescending about it. You would really rather double the trip time? I have 3 kids, no thanks. That sounds like a nightmare.

If you wanted to cut that 4 to 6 hour car trip down that’s easily done by flying from Detroit to Traverse City. There are 3 to 4 flights daily.(if there was really a need the airlines could also fly from Lansing and Grand Rapids to Traverse City) Of course you would have to rent a car when you’re there to get around. So I guess my point here really is you can take a bus drive a car or hop on a plane so is there really a need for a passenger train.

Final note: if you wanted to spend money on passenger train studies then I believe this money could be much better spent identifying and developing commuter rail routes in the state of Michigan.

I'm pretty sure he was being facetious with that comment and it didn't warrant a serious response.

Toledo to DC ... Under 8 hours in a car vs over 13 hours on Amtrak. I have done both from further west along the line ... the trip where I left my car at home limited what I could do in DC. The train runs once per day (overnight both ways). My car runs on my schedule.

Before spending serious money on HOW to connect A2TC show the need. And try to show it without spending a million dollars.

Sadly, these days a million dollars doesn't really qualify as "serious money."

Thanks. I got the link from Facebook and it worked fine and I didn’t have a membership. That’s odd.

Well who’s going to break the news to a city that spend hundreds of dollars on this and a city transit Authority that got 1.3 from the United States Department of Transportation. 🫠
