I am surprised that they didn't put the platform high enough to avoid the use of the step box.
Superliner floor is 18 inches above rail.
Horizon/Amfleet floor is 48 inches above rail.
GR platform is apparently level for Superliner cars.
Trying to find(without success) height above rail for deployed stairs on Horizon/Amfleet cars.
A step box might not be needed at GR for Horizon/Amfleet depending on the bottom stair height above rail.

GTW Birmingham was the only high level platform in the entire state when it was in use. A center siding at the station with hand thrown switches at each end allowed high wide loads to pass. Of interest geographically, the Birmingham station was the first one west of Johnstown, PA (PRR,PC) with a high level platform.
