Something that looks like a test bed appears in March 2020 imagery: The only photo I could find is of a MILW SD45 #9. Photo by Larry Burk (8/23/1987).

It looks like a dynamic brake blister from a -2 EMD to me. Radiator sections don’t quite look like that and the radiators are still back there on this one.AndrewsTrains wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 9:48 amIt was outside yesterday its now in black, what's the front piece it's still on there about 3 years ago it was gray as well

If you're going to load test, you need something to load, like the resistor grid used for dynamic braking.ns8401 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 10:44 amIt looks like a dynamic brake blister from a -2 EMD to me. Definitely a dynamic brake blister.

[NS3322 Asks: Is the SD45 still there? I thought all of their old stuff was gone. [/quote]
Everything but the SD45 was gone years ago. It was January 9, 1980 that the super long Union Pacific DD35b #72B that Peaker bought along with a bunch of other old Union Pacific relics came thru Grand Rapids enroute to there. It was by far the largest unit ever to come to Peaker.. Others to come was NW2 1075 (which was rebuilt) and SW7 1803. Drawbar problems on the switchers kept them in Wyoming yard for over two weeks. All of the units brought there were parked in the siding west of Silver Lake Road on the north side of the main in the old gravel pit that was once there, Peaker took the engines out of the DD35 and rebuilt those, but the rest of it was scrapped out on site along with many others after sitting there for years, It came time they had to get rid of the then unmovable units because CSX was removing that siding.

Peaker, when first coming to Brighton had the contract to do maintenance work on all of the Detroit Edison fleet of locomotives. (Perhaps just the EMD's but not the GE's. Can not remember if it was one or the other, or both.

If you are referring to the phot link, this is a not a passenger car but a twin engine diesel B-Unit locomotive. Sort of like an over grown SD35 with twin engines.AndrewsTrains wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 8:54 pmWhats the story with the UP passenger car http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=2547414

I do not recall anything about that UP passenger car being at Peaker.. Perhaps someone else knows. I attending several meetings at Peaker when I belonged to the AATTW between 1972 & 1982 during the time I was writing the "Chessie Chasin' column" in The Inside Track", the magazine associated with the Ann Arbor Train & Trolley Watchers group.AndrewsTrains wrote: ↑Thu Jun 03, 2021 10:44 amIn the link to the picture it is a UP coach the link i put in

Re: Peaker service sd45
It's interesting that the dome car has no lettering.
Seems like a recent paint job was done.
While dome cars apparently needed their own powerplant to operate the AC due to all that glass...
I think those power plants were somewhat smaller than what Peaker normally worked on.
Plus it would be something that could be done in the field by the owner.
That makes me wonder if this is a privately owned car because the UP Cheyenne shop was quite capable of doing that work.

Re: Peaker service sd45
I haven't had a chance to look for pictures, but it sticks in my mind that the UP dome car was parked at one point on the siding in Williamston with the privately owned observation car. Global Star? So maybe same owner?
Re: Peaker service sd45
Somewhere, in all the slides I need to get time to scan to digital format, we have pictures of the UP units on the siding near Peaker.
How much rail work is Peaker still doing? I thought they had gotten out of the rail services industry a few years ago, or maybe they just were not getting many contracts anymore. I haven't been over there in several years, so I can't say what if anything they get or have.

Over the past 5-7 years they have worked on SD60s for CSX, SD70s and SD70Is for CN, a GP38-2 for New Brunswick Southern, a GP9 and SW1500 for the Essex Terminal RR, and most recently an AC4400 for CSX.

Re: Peaker service sd45
Do they leave the old SD45 test bed outside most of the time now? I would love to get an updated photo of it!
When I last drove by the property in April 2018 (while visiting the nearby Lingenfelter Collection) the hood of a CN SD75I (I believe #5722) was the only thing visible.
