Chessie Caboose in Grand Rapids

Unread post by KVERBERK »

Saw a FB post of a Chessie caboose in Grand Rapids. Looked Like B&O 904016.
Anyone know the story on that one? Where it might be going?

It's an HBO (Heavy Bad Order) Class 1 that currently sits out behind the old car shop with some other HBO cars. This particular caboose was used in Holland regularly by Y121 until November 2013 when it was hit by a car while shoving north up the Fremont sub to the CHS elevator in Harlem. The impact sheered off the air reservoir and damaged the underside of the caboose enough that it was not deemed worth fixing.

I'm surprised they haven't scrapped it yet.

Can't remember if that is the one I scavenged the doors off of for the Plymouth Hist Soc caboose or not. If so, may end up being a parts source for similar cabs
