Does this railroad still exist? I recently saw a photo of an NS local taking a train of steel coils to Zug and it made me wonder.

ADBF 836 is at Milwaukee Junction. 9 cars for CN.

They were spotted working on 1/16/2021.

I actually caught a Delray Connecting light engine move back in November at the W. Jefferson crossing. By the time I got out of the car and then dodged a stray pit bull this was sadly the best shot I could get:

That is the DC going back to Zug Island. DCON does not have an MP15. Delray Connecting works Mon-Thursday. Conrail was delivering coil received from NS to the USS Gt. Lakes mill in Ecorse. Conrail and USS got into a little spat so USS is having DC deliver the coil.

NS brings the coil from Gary, Ind and delivers to the DC on Zug Island. DC takes the cars to Ecorse and gives them to USS. Empty cars go the reverse route. This helps the DC employees keep working and it helps keep transportation money in house since USS still owns the DC.

DC also does switching for DTE Coke Services and the DC still has an active car repair business. Also note the DC has the last maned interlocking tower in Michigan, the Short Cut bridge.

I recently came upon this informative map of the Delray Connecting trackage and interchange locations/and some current and former major customers. I think the Ecorse side of the USS Great Lakes Works is still open to some extent. Detroit EES Coke Battery on Zug Island is still open and CN presently has the contract for outbound loads, but I’m not sure if DC is involved in their Zug Island Coke operations or not.

Per KenB's post 2/2021. NO spat between Conrail and USS. The DC contacted the NS and cut a deal to keep their people working...

Thank you.

If the steel comes from the NS, does it come to DC via the Boat Yard Line and over the 141 and Short Cut drawbridges?

Also, on aerial maps you can see there is lumber operation in Ecorse in the vicinity of Nicholson’s. Is that a DC customer or CN?

Yes, NS goes through Delray and onto the ex-Union Belt than at Solvay crossovers shoves down the lead to Zug Island over the 141 bridge into the DCRR yard.
DCRR takes the cars to Ecorse to USS-Gt. Lakes Works.
