CN train 402

I've seen or heard this symbol a few times recently. Is it a new train, or a replacement for something else?

502 became 402.

391 became 591, which is now 401.

Back in the late 60's, 401 and 402 ran between Port Huron and Lang Ohio. They ran automotive parts and some farm machinery. Usually pulled into East Yard in Detroit between 8-9 pm. They set out and picked up and they were on their way.

And, if I recall, these trains were usually powered by Detroit & Toledo Shoreline RR GP7's.

You're correct Manistique. They were often powered by D&TS GP-7's. Although I saw other GTW units assigned to it too.

Back in 1966 while working at Beaubien St Tower common practice was that upon reaching Beaubien the D&TSL engines would cut off and get their caboose and GTW would then supply power & cab for the trip to Port Huron, I remember well because the cross-overs used to make the move were real back-breakers to throw !

I saw the D&TSL GP-7s a couple times at Pontiac when I came to work at 4:00, back in the 60s.

There were two trains out of Toledo that used the Holly Sub. One went to Durand and the other to Flint. GP7's might have gone as far as Pontiac but I'm not sure if they went beyond.

410 and 411 were the Durand trains. 420 and 421 were to Flint. They swapped crews in route between Dearoad Yard and Pontiac.
