Romulus MI

Unread post by CSXBOY »

When are the best times to go railfanning in Romulus MI. On a Friday during spring break I went to Romulus saw only one train. And when I got home I heard so many trains on the CSX. I live in Livonia. I do better at Plymouth MI than Romulus. Plymouth has about 10-15 trains on all of the lines. Romulus has 20-30 trains on Norfolk Southern and CSX has 10-15 trains per day. I do NOT go railfanning at night. So what are the best times to go see trains.

thanks CSXBOY

I've had the best luck at Romulus before noon & after 4pm. Like most places there could be a 2-3 hour "dead" period followed by 2-3 hours of constant trains.

11:00am-1pm is basically the best during the mid day, or 8am-10am in the morning. Normally 1-3pm is basically dead, and afternoons/ evenings can be hit or miss. The best I ever did at Romulus was 8 trains in 75 minutes.

The line up went like this on that day, which is why I say 11am-1pm is normally the best
11:35am- CSX SB Grain train
11:58am- CSX SB autorack
12:01pm- NS WB auto parts local
12:10pm- CP EB intermodal
12:16pm- CSX NB mix
12:19pm- CP WB Tank Car train
12:38pm- CSX SB grain train
12:50pm- NS WB auto parts
Most days you won't get that lucky with volume, however during that time you will normally get a handful of trains.

So about 8 years later, exactly 1 of those moves happened in that same time slot...
