My dad and I were on the run yesterday.... glad the rain held off for much of the day. Great to see a full train and hopefully the venture was both successful and profitable for the 765 and 1225 groups. Questions - I was under the impression that the track speed limit up to at least Clare was 40mph Class III track. I don't think we ever really went over about 25 or 30mph, based on my perhaps inaccurate visual guessing. Was there a speed restriction in effect as two huge Berks were doubleheading? I recall chasing the 1225 by itself on a few trains years ago and it seemed like we couldn't keep up. If anyone could shed any light, that would be great.

Also nice to see several industrial spurs in service with cars on them along the GLC mainline. The staff on the train was helpful and I very much enjoyed the journey. Thanks also for the excellent double runby!

I chased it Northbound, but wasn't able to get it Southbound. I wish I could have chased it Southbound to Lake George. The curve there was the only place with good fall color.

Edit: This is all fark stupid....

I also rode the train, as per usual with me. Saw JT along the line, along with CN_Okemos, and met Nathan on the train too. I spent a minimum of time in the vestibules this time around (due to the cold weather) and mostly hung out in the coaches, especially in the concessions car in the center of the train.
The photo runby was at Lucas, a few miles south of Cadillac, and was very very enjoyable. Both runs, in my opinion, rivaled even some of the performances I saw during the photo charter in August. The train arrived in Alma two-hours late, but I don't think anyone really cared. Great job SRI, FWRHS and GLC. You've done it again.

I'm not sure if that was a problem or concern today, but I can say that, at least since GLC took over operations on the former Ann Arbor, I understand all excursions with steam locomotives have been limited to about 25 MPH. In the past (late 90s to early 2000's) these trips did run at trackspeed. I suppose they still could, but it's what GLC wants I guess.

Maybe you didn't see the part where Pat said:

Once again...the uninformed, self-proclaimed spokesman for SRI...but thanks for speculating...it helps

Edit: I understand now why many, many railroaders who have information do not post on these boards. I know only a select few people will connect with what I am getting at.

Everytime someone asks a question about 1225, you jump right on it whether you have the DL or not. In doing so, Gregg, it gives you the appearance of their wanna-be spokesman. It may or may not be general knowledge but the way you present your "facts" is the tell-all. You use key phrases, and I quote from your message (which you have since erased), such as "I'm not sure", "I believe", "I suppose", "I guess", "I don't think" and "in my opinion". Each one of those brings you down a peg.

My intent is not to be malicious, I am jsut trying to get a point across. When Pat, or anyone for that matter, ask for details from someone on the 1225 crew, it is better to let that person who is "in the know" answer the question, as they can do it better than anyone else. It is not your place to answer on behalf of SRI. The game's called Telephone, and we all know how that works. We want the info from the FIRST guy in line, not the LAST guy.

NO Greg, they don't post here because of the people who speculate on things that they know nothing about. They also don't post here or "other" forums because of people who announce things that are supposed to be kept quiet.

You are not a member of the engine crew, so how on God's green earth could you even begin to know what's going on with 1225? The game's called Telephone, and we all know how that works. Yeah, I have to agree with Bob. Word for word....

This kind of stuff right here is why there are private groups and lists out there... to control the spread of misinformation and other various BS.

I stayed home watching the MSU/Michigan game and then decided to come up to see the return. I was going to start at Lake George, but given the rain and dirt roads I decided to start at Farwell. It looked spectacular there just as darkness was setting in. I then went on to Clare, and also by the Towers on the campus of CMU. Looked great all times I saw it and figured I had better take in those sights now before 1225 goes down for the inspection. It was also cool to meet another member of the board, JustAaron. Then RailCanon and I caught it in Ithaca and North Star as it made its return to Owosso. I hope that 765 will return in future years to doublehead with 1225, or even hope that 765 would come back in the time that 1225 is down for inspection. :D
