Locomotive on semi trailer in Pontiac 8-15-09?

Unread post by kc8bdr »

My wife tells me she saw a railroad locomotive on a semi trailer this afternoon in the Downtown Pontiac (Yes during the Dream cruse) she described it as being painted gray and having the letters ‘GM” on the front.

She did not know much beyond that.

I am now curious about this engine and why it was on this truck.
My wife is anything but a railfan so she really did not know what to look for to answer much of my questions.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Jim

Let me come back and add that that she saw this about 4:30/5:00 P.M.

Its hard to say without seeing a photo. My guess is that it had something to do with the dream cruise, sort of like that miniature CN engine that's been in Durand before.

I bet it was the restored GM futurliner. A sort of bus/display truck they used in the '50s I know it was in Pontiac, and can see how it could be mistaken for an old locomotive.

Thank You, I just showed her this photo and asked if that is what she saw? And she said yes.

Now that I think about it the semi trailer was more something I come up with, when she first told me about seeing a locomotive on the street I pictured it on a semi trailer.

Thanks again.

Oh, that reminds me, on my way down here, I saw a semi loaded with a couple 2 axle traction motors. Then later I saw another semi but I can't remember what was on it. This was on I-55 I believe.
