Asking 4 help with Trainfest Excursion Times

Unread post by Larry G »

I would like to catch 1225 or 765 at Ashley or Ithaca while on the way to Trainfestival in Owosso on Saturday and Sunday. If the train leaves Owosso around 9:30 am when would one expect it to move through these towns NB or SB in the afternoon.
Thanks for your help!!!

First, it sounds like it's going to be the 765 as 1225 has a cracked flue. Second, if I were you I would just find a spot and camp out because it sounds like there's a TON of people out there shooting photos them running by. There's a thread here somewhere that people were talking about what times the trains are leaving Alma to return to Owosso.

Oh, and welcome to the forum :D

Today (Friday), the 4449 went through Ashly at M-57 at about 10:20 AM headed to Alma, if that helps.

I agree that it will probably by crazy busy. There were a lot more people out today than Thur. However given M57 and 127 Hitting both of those spots would probably be doable without abusing the traffic laws. :|

Thursday they crossed M57 Nbd at 10:27 and went through Ithaca at 11:00.

Not sure about Ashley today, but Ithaca was 10:57

Thanks for the reply and information. We will plan to be in Ashley shortly after 10 to catch the excursion on Saturday or Sunday. Then down to the festival. I appreciate the help.

I chased on Thursday, and rode on Friday (today). Chasing gave me the idea that there were probably several hundred cars in the chase. Today from the train, I saw cars at all of the paved intersections with the track, but in addition, there were similar numbers on the unpaved roads. I dunno... If someone told me there were 1000 chasers today, I would not be surprised.

M-57 south of Ashley is a good spot. There will be lots of people stopping to take shots, but most have been cooperative and friendly. There will also be lots of State Police, County Sheriffs, and city police... Which means observe the speed limits, and don't run traffic signals or stop signs.

It's gonna rain, so wear shoes that don't leak, an umbrella is handy, and a small hand towel can help to keep your camera and lens dry.

Be sure to have fun.

John.
