If you are warned when trespassing once, you better think twice before you do it twice.

Agreed, it's the law so we should obey it.

But I still think it's bad policy to consider people crossing the tracks as trespassers. With all the theives and vandals the railroad suffers I consider it a waste of resources for highly paid and trained railroad police to hunt pedestrians and railfans. It's like having someone trained to hunt large prey go after your pet cat or dog. I hope the railroads come to their senses soon.

Trespassers filing personal injury lawsuits cost RRs FAR more
than thieves and vandals. The RR cops go where it serves
the interest of their employers best.

Don't you think it's vandals who file the personal injury lawsuits rather than pedestrians crossing the tracks? At least that's what my sources tell me :?

Apparently there's something about this I just don't see your way. We're not talking about Chicago or Detroit or some other major city with tracks seeing far more trains, especially commuter trains, than Durand or East Lansing.

I respect everyone's point of view and appreciate the inside information, I truly do, I still think the policy has gone too far when they target pedestrians in Durand, Lansing, etc. who are crossing the tracks.

Yes Don, but all it takes is one idiot "crossing the tracks" to get hit and then they all want to sue the railroad because "they didn't know"

Well, why doesn't Don try crossing the tracks in front of the CN cop. Maybe he can explain it better than we can. Just stay off or don't cross the darn tracks (except at a public crossing, use a little common sense if trains are near) and don't get in my way during Trainfestival 2009.

The day I was on 365 going to Chicago, we were stopped in East Lansing and I noticed a lot of people will just get out at that Quality Dairy and cross the tracks to catch the train instead of going around the corner to the actual station entrance which I find to be stupid. Kinda like the this one lady who obviously was running late and did the same only you could hear her yelling at the train frantically to wait. They should have left and ran her over.

I was only Sr. management for 25 of my 37 year RR career where I could be aware of
the cases. But, in those 25 years I can recall very few vandals claiming personal injury.
For trespassers it was constant.

I understand, however, that your sources may be superior to my experience.
