Man you guys can’t take a joke.
I can take a joke like the best of them, but I don't think you were joking. I mean based on this tone alone:

NO CONTAINERS ARE INVOLVED, THE BUSINESS NEAR THE NEW SIDING IS COMPLETELY UNRELATED WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE NOT GETTING. IT'S A FREAKING LUMBER TRANSLOAD, NEW COMPANY COMPRISED OF FORMER AMERHART PEOPLE AS MQT1223 SAID"

I'm sure others feel the same....

Wont matter anyways. Michigan just voted 5-3 to tear out "all rail extending from Walton junction to traverse city". Reason being lack of business and poor rail managment. Looks like there will be a new bike trail in michigan.

Yes, I believe this is an April Fools joke.

"Michigan" voted - who voted exactly? When and where did they vote? Where is the news release/link to such a vote? Where is the cited quote coming from? Etc., etc.

Too many questions in my mind to be something credible lol.

Darn, I thought they would double track the line to help facilitate A2TC.

All joking and incorrect assumptions aside, yes, there is a new siding under construction (I think the first page of this thread has pics of part of the excavation. They need to cut out a path in an access road to continue south where it will connect to the main. It's going to be a south facing switch unless as GP-35 pointed out- GLC may make it a runaround siding. I'll keep tabs and post and updates including photos.

And yes, inbound shipping containers to be retrofitted. Possibly loads of plywood later (used inside the containers).

Pulled into the location yesterday to have a look see. Not much has changed with the siding since the picture was taken but the surrounding areas is being prepared. The site around it and to the south looks to be being readied for concrete or asphalt. Not a big spur presently, maybe they'll extend it more to the north as it could only hold maybe two flats. We'll see.

It will extend further south across that access road to tie into the main, but that's waiting to tear up the road a bit to add the second track to the railroad crossing.

First new customer siding in probably half a century in TC! Last thing even close was when the scrap yard siding was extended a couple hundred feet about 10 years ago or so. And bringing rail traffic farther south on track not used since 2010!

Integrity Iron and Metal extended thier siding when Mr Shepherd owned TS&B so that was before 2006. He also got Cherry Growers to increase outbound shipments significantly around the same time. Traverse City was getting switched three to five times per week back then and the cement transload in Elmira three times a week during peak season too.

IIRC MIGN Todd was on top of the TC action back then and frequently posted.

Time flies…..

Still haven't been back to Box Pop this month. I highly doubt that plywoods of any type will be delivered via rail as the amount they use is dependent on whatever they are crafting the container into for the customer. It's interesting to see all the different creations. No two are alike really. We keep them stocked with our products easily and we deliver the next day after ordering. They have no big Kalmar container lifts, only regular forklifts so I'm interested to see just how they are coming in and going out. Definitely not wellcars. They were working on lots of smaller twenty footers when I was there. Now that I'm back, I will update as often as I can.

I'm sure there's no rush as the new facility is not yet completed.
