I have heard they were unloading them somewhere in Ludington yard, then trucking them to somewhere out near Scottville. There are a few public places (I seem to recall a bridge at the east end) where you can legally see into the yard, but keep in mind that most of the area immediatly around the yard is MQT property.

IIRC the contractor has established a laydown at the former Harbison Walker plant site on the south side of Ludington east of the Occidental Chemical plant (former Dow). The HW site is on the west side of S. Pere Marqutte Highway between 6th St and Conrad.

Just found an article in the Ludington Daily News:

"Second Train of Wind Turbine Parts Arrives
Brian Mulherin - Daily News Staff Writer

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

The second train full of wind parts was brought to Ludington by Marquette Rail Monday and what a train it was. The 60-car train had dozens of turbine blades, turbine nacelles and turbine hubs...
...Wind turbine parts have been collecting at the former Harbison-Walker manufacturing site on Pere Marquette Highway....

...Parts will be delivered to turbine sites starting May 29. There are 56 of the 476-foot-tall turbines planned for Lake Winds Energy Park in Riverton and Summit townships..."

Sargent Sand bought the Harbison-Walker site and now have a track to it. You should be able to see the wind turbine components from the Pere Marquette Highway. There's some videos on Ludington Daily News of the train.

From what I have read not all sand is equal. Frac sand in particular has to be of a certain size, hardness, and texture. You probably know all of that RDD but I found it very interesting reading.

GRHC - you know every night I can imagine he is in front of his computer screen sitting in his underwear swearing profusely and drinking Blatz beer combing the RailRoadFan website for grammatical errors.
