South Shore in Hammond

Unread post by Dan Cluley »

There was a 2 story building with a corner turret at 4634 Hohman ave, next to the South Shore tracks across from the Hammond station.

I believe it is going to be demolished as part of the West Lake expansion
Does anyone know if that has happened, or is it still standing?

I'm going to be visiting the South Shore/NS on Friday (7/30) and am trying to decide whether I'm going as far west as Hammond.

4534 Homan St?

It has been a couple months since I went through there. I can't remember if it was still there or not. There was major construction in the area for the street rebuilding.

Both 4532 and 4524 Hohman are gone, along with the old maintainer's building. It's pretty much wide open west of Hohman Ave on both sides of the tracks all the way to State Line now.

On a related note, the old church on 11th St in Michigan City will be coming down any day now. They are making steady progress along both 11th and 10th Streets with razing structures for Double Track.

Thank you. Fortunately I got most of the endangered Michigan City shots back in April and should be able to finish up this week.
