This morning the St Joseph County Board of Commissioners approved funding the reroute of the South Shore Line on the west side of South Bend. When built the line will approach the airport from the west and terminate on a new platform on the west end of the airport. This will remove the street side running in South Bend and cut ten minutes off of the trip.

Long time residents in the neighborhood near the airport are objecting to the new route, although engineering has not been completed and the exact path has not been determined.

Looks like this project is getting closer... A contract has been awarded to build the new station on the west side of the airport, which will align with the reroute.

Just engineering at this stage. The NEPA process must be finalized before they can apply for funding grants to build it.
