The Indiana Northeastern Railroad

Unread post by matt76 »

I've always loved this shortline and it has been pretty successful over the last decade. I've taken several pictures of the line which I've included here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mattditto ... 4446688795

Very nice. I enjoy seeing shots of the industries the railroads work. Don't seem to see that very often.

I like your pictures, too. Like OSRR said it's nice to see the industries the railroads service.

They run trains every day during the week and sometimes Saturdays. A lot of the track between Steubenville and Angola has been replaced as have a lot of ties.

Nothing in Hillsdale itself is served by the railroad?

DCA was the last customer in Hillsdale that I'm aware of. Unless they're transloading something from the yard I'm not aware of any Hillsdale customers.

Edds will be a good customer. It was all that kept the Indiana Interstate RR running freight on weekdays between Middlebury and Shipshewana. I was conductor on the passenger train on weekends. We had the LS&I 2-8-0 and 5 Rock Island commuter coaches. Sadly we vacated when Penn Central wouldn't negotiate a workable agreement. We had the backing of the Shipshewana State Bank but the lawyers in Philadelphia that wore the 3-piece suits thought the line was way more valuable. Felt sorry for Edds when it happened.

What's the history on the majority of their route? Isn't most of the line either ex. Wabash, NYC or C&O in origin and didn't they pick up most of the ex. Hillsdale County Railroad?

I literally was just looking at all of that. Figured after the fact I could probably find some good information myself.

Looks like from the pictures GTW sent me the Edds Supply extension west of So. Milford grain is finished and ready for business. The piping looks to unload 2 tank cars at a time.
