If you use chrome, the toggle read mode will allow you to read the article.
Has a nice picture of the coal hopper that wanted to go inside.

Last month’s arrival of an environmental cleanup contractor at the building, derelict since the 1990s, raised a red flag for locals who consider the L-shaped, yellow-brick building a symbol of the community, and last week a CSX Transportation Corp. spokesman confirmed their fears.

“The depot is scheduled for demolition,” Sheriee Bowman, a railroad spokesman, said in response to a query. Asked when that schedule might be, Ms. Bowman said there was “no specific timeline available. But the plan is this year.”

Cause of the eyesore of Deshler Station being torn down. It really gets me emotional and I might cry and throw up and slide down the wall.
That building is historic to town, Deshler wouldn’t even EXIST if it wasn’t built, appreciate that it still exists.
Good riddance. It is past it's usefulness and as just an eyesore and a liability.

The Asbestos cleanup inside the building is complete. Demolition papers will be filed later this week. As stated above the building will be taken down later this year no timetable has been established at this time. Feel it will be sometime next month. Won't take much to knock the building down and cleanup won't take more than a week.

They apparently house Hydrogen tanks inside for the emergency backups for the signal system and haven't moved the tanks yet...

A small excavator has shown up next to the station. The end may be very near.

What I assume to have ended it's railroad life as a team track platform is currently being removed.
It was the next to the location of a freight house. The freight house having had a lengthy platform, per Sanborn maps.

Machinery started ripping down the side of the building as of 8:49am this morning. Can watch the demolition in real time here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTW4EkdMEGM

4pm edit: appears they have been working on the back side of the building all day, so not a lot to be seen from the camera.

Took about a half hour to knock it down this morning. You can replay it on Virtual Railfan.

That was one fine demolition job. Parts of it came down awful easy, like the poor thing would have fallen down on its own sooner or later. Neglect is a terrible thing...

My brother, son and I saw it last week while it was still standing. The demo equipment was parked behind it. Kind of sad, but it’s condition would have made it hard to move.
