Ridgeway, Ohio

Unread post by Railfan_Modeler »

I ventured up to Ridgeway today to see what I could find after a failed attempt at finding the H708 local coming into Marysville. Ridgeway was unusually quiet on the Scottslawn and Toledo Branch and the INDY line wasn’t much better, one westbound and one eastbound. Also unusual was I did not see Q008, I got there at about 10:00am, so maybe it was running early but I believe it normally runs later than that. My question is, is that normal nowadays for Ridgeway? I know the Toledo Branch has lost some traffic in recent years and is slower, but the Scottslawn normally has a couple each direction everyday, and today there was none. I never did see the H708 either and I’m not sure if it worked today or not, but the cement plant in Marysville still had hoppers to be taken by CSX on my way home. The only action in Ridgeway all day was some maintenance work by a friendly CSX worker. I saw the same amount of hi-railers on the tracks as I did trains, but overall, it was a slow day to say the least.

Two holidays mid week will change things drastically.

Thanks for the info. I figured the holiday would affect it quite a bit, but I didn’t know most trains were running at night now on the Branch and secondary, I’ve seen a manifest around 3:00 in the afternoon heading north through Marysville that I’m guessing is q310 or q311. I take it q146 and 147 run at night?

If you go up to nearby Kenton, you,ll see some growing activity by the local. The industry base has grown quite a bit here.

Thanks! I’ll have to try and make it up that way and check it out! Does the steel coil facility have a centercab or ge44ton switcher there?
