Over the summer CSXT has replaced a number of ties on the Pomeroy Subdivision between Kanauga Junction MP119.0 and Hobson Yard MP127.9. KNWA is normally the only user of this track under trackage rights dating to 1886. The Pomeroy Subdivision connects with KNWA at both ends points and is used by KNWA 380, 381, and coal trains. The track has been under a 10MPH speed restriction for a number of years. Nucor Steel is constructing a new 3 million ton annual capacity sheet steel mill on the CSXT Ohio River Subdivision about 16 miles down river from Kanauga Junction. KNWA has an interchange with CSXT at Point Pleasant WV across the Ohio River from Kanauga Junction. Hopefully KNWA will benefit from some of the Nucor traffic.

KNWA has been approved for $16.2 million under the the recently announced CRISI grant program. WATCO and NS are committed to provide a 50% match which will bring the total project to $32 million plus. The project is intended to restore KNWA track to at least FRA Class 2 condition.
