Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Beginning
I suggest going out and finding a train once in a while.

For a railroad entirely visible from a 4 lane highway whose trains move at 5 MPH, people sure have a hard time finding it.

YOU WILL FIND IT AND HERE'S HOW.
Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Beginning
Saw two seperate trains going east toward Napoleon today, one right behind the other, each pulling a string of 6-8 cars.

Looks like there's a request in for some money (a grant up to $450,000) to the ORDC to rehabilitate a siding along the ND&W. http://www.dot.state.oh.us/Divisions/Ra ... 202013.pdf

I have less of an issue with the ORDC money now, than under the previous ownership, Pioneer has just a bit more accountability than what was there before....

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Beginning
As a local resident I do not see an issue with state funds going towards the railroad, we can actually see the businesses in Napoleon that rely on the railroad.

Every penny counts, and it's all going to good use.
Bottom text.
Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Beginning
Just out of curiousity, where is this esiding at that ND&W plans to rehabitate?
Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Beginning
ND&W derailed today at East Defiance, PREX 3054 sitting at Adams Ridge Rd. with one SSW boxcar, another sitting to the west derailed with crews working on it. PREX 1603 went back to Defiance light.
I'm just here to put in time claims and complain
Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Beginning
When I was in Defiance on Thursday afternoon, there were two boxcars sitting alone about 1/2 mile east of Domersville Road, with a crew and a backhoe nearby...I couldn't get close enough to see, but I'll bet something was on the ground. There was no engine in sight.

1606 ran as light power from Cecil to Defiance and then back today, this is the first movement of anything but track equipment in close to 10 years.
Also shot the Gettysburg unit in Woodburn, Saturday. This thing has faded to a bionic red color.

Was this a test run to see if there were any bad spots left, do you think? I wonder how long it will be until regular traffic returns.MagnumForce wrote:1606 ran as light power from Cecil to Defiance and then back today, this is the first movement of anything but track equipment in close to 10 years.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Beginning
No, they needed a helpful push getting the final few "storage" cars out from the industrial park.
Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Beginning
Questions:
1) I am going to try a trip with my daughter to check out the ND&W and I was wondering if they generally follow the MAW's old schedule for leaving Defiance. If not, what is a good time to get to Defiance to see them leave? We "chased" the MAW a couple times and had no luck finding a moving train.
2) Are they using the track from Woodburn to Cecil? There are quite a few good photo shots where the track run through people's front yards, etc., it would be nice to get some shots if it is traveled at all.
3) Are they as laid back as the MAW people were about photographers and rail fans? I never had any issues with the day to day MAW employees and I don't want to antagonize the new management.

1) Yes, Mon-Sat day shift. As someone said they're on 15 miles of track next to a main road. It shouldnt be hard to find them.
2) Yes, but I don't think they run daily but as needed.
3) Don't know
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...
