MMGN has acquired a pair of GP9’s from ADBF. Both units are operable and will begin service immediately. They became expendable when ADBF acquired a quartet of GP40-3’s from LSRC. Both will be rebuilt in 2024 by National Railway Equipment in Mt. Vernon, IL.

The two GP9’s can be MU’d together and will provide enough HP to pull the 25-car blocks of feed/fertilizer that are expected. They are forecasting one to two 25-car blocks per week.

MMGN’s SW9 7011 will be kept until both GP9’s complete their rebuild.

NW2 1977 is for sale and there is a local railroad interested in buying it.

MMAN’s animal feed plant near Vickeryville is progressing with the goal of opening in the 3rd quarter of 2024. Despite the mild winter, the contractors have not been able to get ahead of the schedule due to a shortage of skilled workers.

The ROW is graded. Replacing the old rail and laying new will commence in late April or early May. Old stick rail (but heavier and newer than the existing track) will be used rather than welded rail. It is coming from CPKC who replaced it with welded rail via CPKC-CSX-GLC. Ballast is coming from the aggregate pit in Wallace (west of Pigeon) using the routing of HESR to GLC. The ties are coming from a Stella-Jones plant in Bangor, WI.

Potato Services of Michigan (PSI) is reportedly preparing a proposal to submit to the Montcalm County planning commission to build a plant east of Sheridan on the south side of the ROW. Their plans show several railroad spurs on plant property, but MMGN has not been contacted yet.
