Shortline Train Location Updates - January 2024

Grand Elk north through Byron Center at 3:44pm. WAMX 4225, WAMX 4124, and 29 cars. 4225's horn sounded a bit off today.

Grand Elk south through Wyoming/Cutlerville area at 6:15pm. Horn sounds warbled/muffled from where I am.

GRE returned to GR. With about 25-30 empties. Then left them on the bridge, west of Turner, and went into the yard light. Probably needs to make some room to fit all the cars.

East of Turner, sorry. Left early and did not see the outcome.

All of those empties went on M327 this morning, counted about 40 ish cars in different parts of the train. 28 BNSF empties behind head end engine, 3-5 empties near mid, 5-7 empties near rear.

From a video I saw in the FB Michigan’s Railfans group, Marquette Rail southbound at 11am passing 5th St with MQT #2040, MQT #3391, BPRR #3345 and MQT #3408 and a long line of cars. Grain hoppers on head end in the first 10 seconds of the video.

I would assume parts of the grain cars were included in todays load

As if 11:40, MQT power parked under the Business 196 overpass west of Lamar at Wyoming Yard with a slew of covered hoppers up front. I saw that faded orange unit in the mix and wondered if that was the BPRR unit back in action.

Haven't seen a gon on the GRE since Michigan Wire got their last cars in 2015-2016.

Upon further investigation, it s a PDNX tall sided gon. My uneducated guess is it got left on the wrong siding.

Grand Elk in Wayland now working Bay Valley Foods. Will head north when he's done. Only about 10 cars.

CHS 3 ran today on the Charlotte Southern today. Crews from ADBF and CPMY worked together to shove the coaches Butternut Creek and Battle Creek to interchange with CN.
