Shortline Train Location Updates - August 2022

Grand Elk was north through Byron Center while I was making food on the grill approx 6:30pm, WAMX 4125 and 4124 with about 15 cars.
Back south through Byron Center at 9:30ish, 4124 and 4125, maybe 20 cars.

I have the dogs out just before bed, 11:00 PM. I can hear the Elk at the M-89 crossing in Plainwell.

19:30 - ADBF 1752/1759 WB across US 223 with a cut of loaded corn cars from MAC-Blissfield. They made some repairs to their loader arm and began loading an NS corn train today.

Z151-29 @ 11:26am north at Butterworth Drive, near Grand Valley State University, with MQT 3406, MQT 3391, MQT 3389 and 99 mixed cars.

JAIL at Ensel Yard. Just returned from CN. Grabbed two coils and a box from CN (unknown if any cars for Padnos), 4 boxes from CSX and have two gons (NS) for Ambassador steel that they will work on their way SB.

14:27 - SB across Kalamazoo Street with the 9 cars.

I was in the area of Hugart Yard around 4:15pm, I saw WAMX 4124(?), WAMX 4125, and WAMX 4017 all hooked up with 4124 facing south and 4125 and 4017 facing north.

I also saw a long line of freight cars lined up for the Grand Elk trip southward possibly later today. Maybe 30-40 cars from the US 131 freeway view.

WAMX 4017 pulled 30 mixed cars from Wyoming Yard this morning around noon into Hugart Yard.

Grand Elk @ 10:29pm southbound horn heard in the distance at Wyoming 44th St. Assumed WAMX 4124 (faced south), WAMX 4125 (faced north) and WAMX 4017(?)(faced north) are at head end and 20-50(?) of cars. Assuming they will drop off 4017 somewhere.

Cleared 44th at 10:32pm
Approaching 50th at 10:34pm, clear horn blast
Approaching 54th at 10:36pm with loud horns.
Near 60th, head end engines at 10:38pm
Approaching 68th at 10:41pm
Approaching 76th at 10:45pm

South through Byron Center at 10:50pm. Looked like WAMX 4124 and a 2nd loco, didn't see a 3rd trailing, cars still rolling by south slowly.

I’m heading back out tomorrow morning to Hugart Yard and see what engines are left after grand elk runs south and Z739 Wyoming yard turn jobs.

At 11:10am, I drove pass Hugart Yard in Grand Rapids, MI and saw at least 4-5 WAMX engines. I believe WAMX 4017 is switching cars around and possibly doing a Z739 Wyoming-Hugart Turn job later. 4017 was connected with a line of 10 ish cars

I also saw WAMX 4009, WAMX 4002(?), WAMX 4189(?) and another WAMX hidden behind a line of covered hoppers

DCON running today. no NB JAIL run today. JAIL did not run south to Jackson yesterday as they had trees down like many others.

Z151-30 @ 11:48 reported at Godfrey and heading northbound. MQT 3406, MQT 3391, MQT 3389 and 126 cars

Z739 @ 12:05 called to Rouge Tower about getting permission to enter the yard. Assumed WAMX #4017 was leading and didn’t get a car count, heard over scanners

Grand Elk north through Byron Center at 3:06pm. WAMX 4125, WAMX 4124, and 19 cars. Steel coil cars, covered hoppers, tank cars, and then boxcars.

Grand Elk horn heard in the distance of Wyoming 44th St area at 6:22pm. Assumed WAMX 4124 and WAMX 4125, unknown number of cars.

6:23 -> approach 50th St
6:25 -> approach 54th St
6:27 -> near 54th st
6:28 -> no horns heard
