Haven't seen 350 or 355 lately. They were suppose to restart up this past Saturday.

Just read that they are now cancelled until October 23. Wonder if we will ever see them again?

Sorry if I missed reading this elsewhere on the board but checked and didn't see anything.

Pere Marquette 370/371 has been running with a pair of new Venture coaches and an Amcafe/business class car for the past few days. Interesting to watch the power step deployment in the Bangor camera.

NS train B25 had a car derail yesterday evening in Grass Lake. One wheel set was off the tracks. Hulcher was en route but Amtrak had to bus everyone around to final destinations, terminating at least 354 in Jackson and possibly more.

I believe they are bussing people this morning as well.

There’s been an Amtrak ballast train parked with the engine off in Wayne between the Ford plant since yesterday morning with a freshly painted NS 4512 long hood forward on the head end.

I must have just missed it crossing Woodward, when I was parked at Avon Donuts. Or maybe the awesomeness of the donuts deafened out the train noises 8) .

According to Amtrak Alerts on Twitter feed, "mechanical issues" for 351 that caused "congestion".

It’s pretty standard operational protocol for Amtrak to strand their passengers for hours on end. Can’t wait to hear about the first A2TC train stranded in Kalkaska

Wouldn’t happen as often if they put two locomotives on the trains like they used to. P42s had their problems but they had a backup with them. One is none, two is one.

I noticed that even without 350/351 running for two months now, Amtrak is still assigning a spare locomotive to Pontiac, which I thought was just to avoid wying 350 when it arrived or having two locomotives on this train to return to Chicago as 355. So maybe it is a backup locomotive, which also seems a bit odd if Amtrak is power short (which maybe the reason for embargoing 350/355). I wonder if it was sent to Jackson to help out?

I had once heard Amtrak used two locomotives on the Michigan line to hit the high speeds on part of it but maybe that was just with the lower-horsepowered F40's and not the more powerful P42's or Chargers.

In the "old days," sometimes a GTW locomotive assigned to Pontiac was put on an Amtrak train out of Pontiac that needed assistance.

For about the first year after the 110 MPH started the trains were double-headed, using the second unit only on the high speed section.
It was all P42s by this time. 351 used to consistently make better time Kalamazoo-Porter than it does today.
