If they knew their time was expiring, why didn't they stop a few minutes earlier where they wouldn't be blocking busy crossings?

GRHC - you know every night I can imagine he is in front of his computer screen sitting in his underwear swearing profusely and drinking Blatz beer combing the RailRoadFan website for grammatical errors.

The crew had told the Dispatcher there was going to be an issue for their remaining time & the Dispatcher told them to hold on while he make a call. Crew was then told to continue on even though their time would expire along the Fremont sub-division. Then, a broken rail had occurred ahead of him at Saugatuck that he had to be talked over & that finished up their on duty time. In retrospect, they should have just stayed on the main track at Grand Junction after adding their CSX power & got re-crewed there. They could have easily looped Q326 thru the Grand Jct siding around him. Wells siding has a loaded coal tied down inside there since Jan 21st.

MP26.6 would have the coal load blocking just 32nd St in Holland. Google Maps traffic overlay agrees with that assessment.
