Grand Elk in Moline, MI about 6:15 PM. Been giving chase since they left GR just shortly after 5pm. Still the same WAMX engines as the previous poster states.

Currently in Moline they're working some customers off the main line. Looks like a grain elevator and something else not sure what the second is.

Last update on Grand Elk since I'm ending my chase. Getting bit chilly and spotty rain.

Grand Elk passed Gun Lake Casino at 7:21pm. This time had more cars added, counted 18. 12 more added from the 6 cars they had after working the customer in Moline.

Would love to continue chasing them to Kalamazoo but sadly ending here. Was a fun chase. Now trip back to GR.

Moline has a fertilizer customer. The spur starts by the elevator and extends north to the fertilizer customer and beyond quite a distance but I don't think the elevator ships anything by rail.

GRE was in Lowell around noon Friday. About 10 for King. Also brought the Amway cars into Lowell-2 hoppers, 1 tank. Usually don’t bring them into town.

The industry in Moline is Nutrien Ag Solutions. They get tanks and potash hoppers, among other things.

Grand Elk north through Byron Center at 5:04pm. WAMX 4209, WAMX 4225, and 11 cars. Mostly tank cars, with an NS scale test car on the rear.

Back south at 7:22pm with 4225, 4209 and about 14 cars, almost all boxcars. Went very slow around Clyde Park and 84th, then sped up to normal.

Scale test car is for the GRE, for Amway.

If I'm reading this correctly the steel coils are from Gerdau in Jackson, MI?

Yes. The NS coil cars are a static set of coils that go back and forth between Gerdau in Jackson and RSDC in Holt. There’s obv more than 30 but they just had a large train this morning.

Usually once a week they will get 1-2 from CSX but it must be speciality steel product and it comes from Indiana somewhere.

I always wondered why I never would see long cuts of coils come in on any NS trains and now I know.

The NS Jackson local (currently hiring a conductor, btw) works Gerdau.

Thank you for the information LRF. I understand why JAIL likes this but am surprised that NS was interested in such a short haul.

I am willing wager that they do this frequently enough to make money with minimal effort.

Maybe when the lease expires they’ll take it back and run it out of Jackson?

It’s about 60 cars a week with very minimal effort from what I understand.

The effort lies with the 2 ADBF GP-9s hauling 30 loaded coil cars up from Jackson to Holt!
