L302-10 by Howell at 19:08 with 109 cars including around ten cars of rip rap rock near the rear. Unusual to have stone loads as well so early as evidenced by 302 earlier this week. Power on L302 was 475 + 905 + 8199. 8199 may get set off in Lansing for replacement power for 8181 to mate with 4003. 8181 went south a few days ago.

M327-11 @ 7:08am just had Job Briefing with RN Dispatcher in Grand Rapids, MI: CSX #941 + CSX #3408 as DP with 160 cars (94 Loads and 66 empties) at 14074 tons and 9001 ft long. He’s ready to depart and picking up conductor at Ivanrest

Little iffy on the tonnage and length since I heard him brief with static.

Edit at 7:58: tonnage was 14,474 and length was 9110 ft long. Overall, it was quite amazing to see a train travel at 10mph to 30mph in 3-4 minutes.

The stone is for National Lime & Rock's Hartford yard on the West Michigan.

The stone is for National Lime & Rock's Hartford yard on the West Michigan.

A couple of stone loads on L301-09 westbound headed for the WMI interchange in Hartford Michigan.

The reason why you’re seeing early loads of stone this year is probably because Lake Michigan never froze over and has open water and it’s pretty much ice free as of 03/11/23
This gives contractors an early jump on the 2023 construction season for restoring eroded lake shore areas and rip rap repair in general.

L303-11 @ 11:58 am has Grand Rapids Job Briefing with RN Dispatcher: CSX #905 + CSX #475 with 90 cars (63 loads and 27 empties) at 9,151 tons and 4,958 feet long. He’s ready to depart from CG2.0. He also copied an EC1 at CG2.0 to work at Ensel Yard at 12:00pm.

StoneCo in Lansing received a cut of stone cars at least a month ago now. They haven’t unloaded em yet but their tracks are full of loaded cars.
