B05 ran all 5 days this week

Unread post by signmasters »

Didn't make it down town today but heard B05 on my scanner on their way through Dowagiac to Lawton. This makes 5 days this week B05 has made it's run east of the state line, loving every minute of it.

Starting Sat NS38e will go west from Livernois to Wayne, get recrewed then come back to Detroit to continue on to Sterling. NS wants to abolish #176 from Sterling to Bellvue.

176 and 178 were combined for a bit last year and its been off and on since...started as 7 days a week for both then 7 for 178 and 5 for 176 and then it was down to 3 for 176 and 7 for 178 and now if they can get the autoparts and the rest of the traffic to combine on a flat schedule it will work....with the doing away with 33M/36M there has been talk of maybe bringing back 39E when needed if traffic gets going again...this would just do the opposite of 39E..in any case we will lose to more trains in and out of MI on the NS

Any of the B jobs have free roam out of Wayne...B44 visits west of Wayne alot...they go where they are needed as the B57 and other B jobs in the Detroit area....several times a week you can catch one of the B jobs running to Toledo and so forth...NS is still trying to "feel out" traffic patterns with the Grand Elk and so forth...

Yes B34 and B44 are different trains. They DO NOT run over the same area at the same time.

"The Plan" is for NS38e to arrive Detroit around 300am, s/o Livernois cars & p/u Belv's/Elkharts at livernois and take to Wayne, recrew, leave Belv's & Elkharts at Wayne, runaround Northyards/Sterlings and return east to West Detroit then go north to Sterling. Best i can guess is that if 38e arives around 300am I doubt if it will pass Townline before 600am going west, then a few hours at Wayne before returning east. With longer days coming looks like both trips will be in daylight hours.

Hey Scooter, I worked 351-350 today and saw B-16 in Battle Creek; it looked like they brought over a slug of cars and left an engine with them at Hinman and then took what looked like around 20 back east---they were sitting at the east end of the yard waiting for me to go east and 353 to clear main # 1 at Barron---and I'm thinking they switched Albion on their way back. Looks like NS is basing a job there at Hinman to switch BTL proper and then go west to Augusta and the 'Zoo as there has been a Conrail painted GP-38-2 sitting there when I've come thru.

I worked the 354-17 which was the deadhead move of the equipment involved in the accident in Chelsea; took the rear unit off 351 at DET, turned it at Bay City Jct., then went to Wayne Jct. to get the train and took it west to BTL where a Chi engineer took over. Was really surprised I didn't see anybody out as I gave a heads up on the shortline board that I would be working that train...

They put Dash-8's on as a last resort.... Usually confined to yard or MofW service...
