Re: CSX Train Location Updates - Nov. 2022
I read elsewhere that at least part of the source of 370’s delay was getting stuck by a bridge lift at the Calumet River. 354 and 30 were also stuck in the mix.
74 cars for L301, wow. I saw the head end of then at a long distance from a few blocks away while cruising slowly through zeeland, trying to keep their speed on the uphill grade. Strange, but I could still hear them blowing for crossings from the 72nd and 64th street crossings, usually from town we don’t typically hear them much beyond Fairview crossing.
One SD40-3 doesn’t seem like quite enough to muscle 74 cars back to the yard, obviously. Is there a reason Y106 gets 2 units whether they have 3 cars or 15 but L301 only rates a single 6 axle no matter the tonnage or the distance? Just an observation!
Y121 in Holland brought a centerbeam to Zeeland Lumber, picked up 2 and repositioned one covered hopper at Vanden Bosch. Not sure if they also worked Plastcore, or not.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - Nov. 2022
I questioned why Y106 runs with 2 engines back to back with rotating engines of CSX #2061, CSX #6518, and CSX #6544. The most cars I've seen Y106 is like 18 cars, mostly tankers. Maybe it is easier to switch cars with 2 engines? I ain't no expert but I do record Y106 a lot during my time in Grand Rapids.GP30M4216 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 10:15 pm74 cars for L301, wow. P371 departed Holland at 6:48am with only two Supers. What a cute little train.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - Nov. 2022
G803-15 (or 16) grain load with 80 cars and 3452 + 5289 on the head end, by Brighton at 09:05. It has just dawned on me that the dispatcher's channel (161.375) may have changed in the last day or two has I have heard no one calling this frequency when they should have, including Z624 when wanting to come over onto CSX at Ann Pere. Am not even hearing anything for trains that have to push the button at Ann Pere recently for the red blocks that has been a continued occurance in the last ten days to get permission to do so.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - Nov. 2022
Thank You. Communication Specialist had the Howell Tower shut down for an hour Monday afternoon to do so some work on it and it was right after this I have heard nothing further. He did let the dispatcher know when finished the tower was back on line, which does mean it was using the same frequency.C&OGP75745 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 9:50 amNo changes in Plymouth area BL2-1843, Still using channel 84-84 for calling dispatcher.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - Nov. 2022
You guys are only thinking from a tonnage perspective and not a power utilization perspective. Y106 typically will run with 2 Remote Control-equipped Geeps because Y106 is almost always back in the yard before 2nd shift starts at 3 pm. Those 2 Geeps are then used by 2nd shift jobs Y290 and or Y297. If they were to send those 2 units out on L301, they would be unavailable until more than halfway through 2nd shift, provided L301 even makes it back to Grand Rapids.Andy24 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 10:57 pmI questioned why Y106 runs with 2 engines back to back with rotating engines of CSX #2061, CSX #6518, and CSX #6544.
