CN Train Updates - December 2016

Got a train departing Pontiac southbound. at 5:48 AM. Did not make it to my desk to make notes when mark-up was given, but the 2 things I do recall was 2 CSX engines, and 0 loads, 78 empty cars. no train number given (or I missed it.) With 78 empty cars I am guessing this is train 280.

That SB that Jim just reported just went by my house at MP 22.5 on the Holly. Looked like another 280 empty autorack train. Followed Amtrak 351 down the hill. Second 280 train in two days at the same time. Maybe they have a schedule now.

Train 399 CN 5749 Leading Met both 116 and 505 there at Durand. Train 505 (Corrected to CN 8937) reported a car with hand brake likely applied on 399. 399 is stopped at Vernon to deal with that car.

116 departed Durand about 6:20 AM, 116 had bad order engine which resulted in 116 and 505 doing an engine swap.

Edit to add: I forgot to include that train 116 has CN 2166 leading.

GTW 4925 was likely train 514, they headed back to Flint about about 6:50 AM.

Thanks I figured that it might be a 280 but was not 100% sure.

116 cleared the detector MP 34.2 at 7:27 AM

505 is good to head west from Durand at 7:25 AM. CN 8937 leading, 58 loads, 12 empty, 4700 feet. 505 will get a re-crew at Lansing.

149 is Westbound at Bancroft at 7:30 AM

116 is good to head south from Pontiac at 8:04 AM CN 2166 & CN 2296.

399 has taken care of the car with the had brakes left on and is good to head to Bancroft at 8:15 AM.

What I understand to be train 383 is headed around the High wye to head south on the Holly sub. at 8:17 AM Train 365 (Amtrak) is waiting for 383 to clear, to work the station at Durand.

With all the snow, the Amtrak trains on the Holly did pretty well yesterday. 352 and 354 were both running only about a half hour late into Pontiac last night. Other than the 350/355 turn, they are still only running with one locomotive and are wying the trains in Pontiac. This makes me think that the speed limit is still down on the Michigan line and they do not need the extra locomotive for speed. The turn has a locomotive on each end probably so it isn't delayed leaving Pontiac around 5:30 pm. They have a spare locomotive parked at the Pontiac depot still.

I did hear a SB go by MP 22.5 on the Holly around 3:30 am this morning but didn't get out of bed to see if it was 116 or not.

Train 515 went SB past MP 22.5 on the Holly at 12 noon. Train 950 just went by now at 12:30 pm. Both a bit late out of Pontiac, probably because of the snow, which is over the rails out behind my house. Missed the power on both.

451 currently heading north thru the Junction. I normally don't post unless I see the power, but wanted to give you guys up north a heads up.

Train 515 with 6223 is NB past MP 22.5 returning to Pontiac.

Train 391 past MP 22.2 NB Holly at 8:30 pm.

I am watching ATCS, and have Durand scanner feed going. Train 765 is backing around the High wye toward the Flint sub, at 9:43 PM. Should be heading west shortly. BNSF 6400 leading.

502 good to head south from Pontiac CN 8876 leading 8:49 PM.

391 should be heading north shortly (At MP 34.2 11:20 PM) Will be meeting 116 at Holly.

391 has CN 2857 and CN 2324, 15 loads, 49 empty.

I am hearing the detector at MP 244.8 on the Flint sub. 116 Cleared that detector at 10:57 PM, 60 axels.

Ok 391 cleared detector MP 34.2 northbound at 11:20 PM with 308 axels. I did add lead engine # on 391 above

514 is good to depart Flint for Pontiac with 2 loads, and a stop at Durand for 30 more cars.at 11:28 PM. Power is GTW 5936

Train 950 just went SB past MP 22.5 at 9:30 am with 6225, one doublestack and a bunch of boxcars.

Train 515 just went by SB past MP 22.5 at 12:30 pm. Missed the power.

Train 950 just heading back to Pontiac at 1:54 pm at MP 22.5.

Train 451 rolling NB past MP 22.5 at 2:54 pm with 2868, 3116 and UP3862.

Train 515 with 6223 NB past MP 22.5 at 4:38 on its way back to Pontiac.

Amtrak 350 arrived at Pontiac about an hour and a half late with only one locomotive. That means it had to be wyed at Pontiac Yard which takes time. It as 355 just went by MP 22.5 SB at 6:30, about 45 minutes late out of Pontiac.

Train 391 rolling by MP 22.5 on the Holly at 8 pm.
