CP reveals first hydrogen fuel-cell locomotive

Interesting how they repurposed one of those SD40-2F's to Hydrogen power. Now lets see how reliable it is...

What the States really needs is overhead pantograph systems for freight. Something like 150 kV or 200 kV electrification.

The grid can't even handle current demand right now. Doing that would be disastrous.

Ah another NOT zero emissions vehicle. Most hydrogen produced in the U.S. is produced by reforming natural gas using steam at 1,300-1800F. So they consume energy (fossil fuels) to produce hydrogen from a fossil fuel with CO2 and CO as by products.

The reason it works in Canada and why they are testing is that there is less people and less industry up there compared to the US. If we go all electric in the United States right now, we would be so screwed. The grid already is already being overwhelmed and blackouts are going to be a common theme this summer across the country from what I’ve read online. Canadas grid is much different.

Exactly, what they should be doing is building more nuclear plants, or fossil fuel plants that can scrub the CO2 from their exhaust (using sodium hydroxide or something). By blindly shutting down our coal plants right now "just because it's coal", they're removing capacity faster than they are adding it, and by ignoring nuclear power, they're replacing power sources capable of maximum power output 24/7 with sources that cannot operate continuously at maximum power.

To be honest, I thought battery-electric locos were peak stupidity. It makes no sense as it's just part of the greenwashing movement, "let's just power everything by batteries".
