New CN Intermodal Symbols

Unread post by LansingRailFan »

Hopefully this is the correct forum for this post:

CN has added a designation for some of its intermodal trains. What were all Q trains are now either Q or Z trains.

Z is for intermodal between two non-port terminals.

Q is for intermodal between a port terminal and either a port terminal or a non-port terminal.

Non-port terminals include: Toronto, Moterm, Chicago, Memphis, Edmonton and Calgary.

Port terminals include: Montreal, Halifax, Vancouver, Prince Rupert and Roberts’ Bank.

Apparently the Q/Z symbol metric is to track efficiencies in shipping times.

A Z149 can start from the Montreal intermodal terminal and a Q149 can start from the Port of Montreal etc...

We will see Q149s and Z149s as an example.
