Are we seeing the stats that will be the final nail for some of Amtrak's long distance trains?

I personally do not believe so. With Biden going to transition to office (A noted Amtrak supporter), Amtrak should be able to bounce back. Given a potential Covid Vaccine coming potentially Q1 2021, the short haul will bounce back, and eventually the long distance should too. I would say the LD will take much longer, but my guess is the next administration will not let Amtrak die just yet. Just like any business, it will take time. Airlines are fighting the same battles, as are busses, commuter agencies etc. With no secret information, I would say we could see daily by Q3 2021 and/or before Thanksgiving 2021.. But in the same breath I could see twi-weekly sticking for a while. Only time will tell.

We could also see a situation like VIA Rail where the LD trains run more frequency in the peak season, and then reduces during the winter. The Canadian goes from Twi-weekly to bi-weekly for the winter. (when it is running)
