What's your opinion on this, RP says bad cropping, my whole intent was to get the water tower and tree overhang to frame in the photo, I shot this in Portrait mode(vertical).

Any suggestions ?

1. Get rid of that tree creeping in on the right.

2. Screw RP, get a Flickr account.

Yes...too tall. Crop to 4:5 and get rid of a lot of that useless foreground.

This may or may not work:

Well hell, if you're a "Big Name" you can even submit a shot with your shadow in it and have it accepted. What a load of inconsistent bull RP is.

Why cant you learn? The vast majority of those of us that submit to RP do so for the fun of it and for the fact that pictures do get a lot of exposure on there. You can also get a lot of exposure on Flickr if you're contacts with the right people. We shoot for ourselves. If our shots happen to match up with RPs guidelines, awesome. If not, oh well. The original poster was not whining about RP, just looking for a bit of help.

RP has never been, nor will it ever be, the be all/end all of train photography.

What Jon said. I rag on RP as much at the next guy but it is a good tool to get your name out.

If I had "screwed RP," I never would have gotten a cover shot on a mag with a readership of nearly 70 million people.

But yeah, you're right, "learn" (what, who knows) and screw RP.

I don't think there's that high of a rate of turnover as NS's corporate photographer. ;)

Wow. It's not this big of a deal. I'm just joking anyways. Sorry if I offended anyone.

If it's Trains Magazine I just might have that one, considering I have them all since about 1945 :)

It's not Trains because Trains has a little less than 100,000 subscribers.....pretty good for a railroad magazine I suppose :)

Jt had his photo in Parade magazine. Saw it in our Sunday paper year or two ago. Think it was for an Amtrak article, photo from California if I remember correctly on the cover.

RP is a decent place to become better known in railfan photography land... My photos there have brought in members to post here, so they aren't too bad. Plus I've sold a photo from there before as well.
