Re: CN Kalamazoo Branch Operations

The power you see on this local is also interesting. Usually, it's run by a former KCS SD40-2 (5942). For some reason, CN swapped the power to an ex-BLE tunnel motor (910) which (at last report) is in Battle Creek. As of Friday night, the local was run by CN SD40-2W 5281. I can confirm the GTW 5942...

CN Kalamazoo Branch Operations

I'm interested to know more about CN's operations in the Kalamazoo area. What customers do they serve? Does Grand Elk have trackage rights/rights to serve the same customers? Where does the line ownership end? And why did they abandon the first Kilgore Yard Office?

Re: MMRR 24

I think it would be cool if they donated the #24 to the Coopersville and Marne.

Railfanning Chicago's Train Stations

What station (Ogilvie, LaSalle, and Union) is the most railfan friendly? Could I railfan on the platforms, without getting yelled at? I know Amtrak doesn't approve of it, but does Metra?

Re: S Lumber Street Chicago

What about the ramp to W Roosevelt? Could I walk down it or would that be trespassing? I saw a gate on streetview, but it was open and I couldn't read the sign on it.

Is this street off limits? This is the one that goes by the Amtrak yard.

Albion Spur

Does anyone know when Guardian Fiberglass in Albion is serviced by NS. It would be so cool to see a train on this branch line.

Re: Amtrak Michigan Services Motive Power

On the Pere Marquette, their is no assigned units, though you can usually find a P42, 3 or four Superliners, and a NPCU. Lots of the time they just leave this set alone for a month or two, so it looks no different. How many NPCU's are based in Chicago? I heard most of them were reassigned to Califo...

Amtrak Michigan Services Motive Power

Are there assigned units to the Wolverine, Blue Water, and Pere Marquette routes? I keep seeing the same units on various trains along the Michigan Line.

I actually caught them last week right by Cytec myself (on Miller Road)! The Wisconsin Southern unit is a Rebuilt EMD GP7u, built as ATSF 2805 in 1952.

I caught a Grand Elk train at Miller Road today in Kalamazoo. Where does CN ownership end on this line, and was this a interchange train?

Re: West Michigan Railroad History

The Kalamazoo, Lake Shore and Chicago was the old dinner train that operated in the 90's on that line. There is a thread somewhere on here about that train and it's white GP9. Chop nose GP7 actually. Unfortunately it met the torch about a decade ago. Was it scrapped at what is now Azcon Corp in Chi...

Do any of you know any great spots to railfan in Detroit? Is Delray Junction a safe area?
