Re: Terre Haute, IN

Speaking of Terre Haute--- does anybody know where the MILW. ROADS yard was in Terre Haute? Remember reading somewhere that it was almost circular. I examined the 1941 edition of the USGS topo map. I believe the CMSt.P&P yard and shops were on the south side of town. The yard does not appear circul...

I drove by the Gladstone yard yesterday. Soo Line 730 looked great after the cleaning mentioned in the news article.

Re: Upper Peninsula Railroading

Anyone have any type of timing or schedule for the Port Inland Railroad or the mining railroad at Cedarville? I believe both are now inaccessible to the public, unless you trespass. Timing or schedule varies. The only crossing on the Port Inland Railroad (Batty Doe Lake Road) was supposedly removed...

Re: MDOT/GLC Manistee Bridge gets federal funding

Hopefully this bridge remodel will allow 1225 to go north to Petoskey and TC, and what I heard, more shipments could go north as well, so the possibility of new customers on the line. Sounds like a good next couple of years for business in Northern Michigan :D The bridge historically kept large PRR...

Where is the proper location of this bridge?
The proper location is centered on the right of way over the Manistee River.

Re: Former GR H & C interurban trackage?

the question is when was the pm industrial track laid? that kind of track is minutia for many publications. i find no reference in the books i have. if loc sanborn maps come back online it might help somewhat with the timeframe. The LOC website will not help in your quest. The newest map on file is...

Re: Pending rail car retirements, high scrap rates tighten equipment market

As far as I know it can be over 50 years old but can not be interchanged to other railroads it has to stay on home rails but I am very surprised to see the scrap tie gons for GLC from CSX some of those where built in the 60s and have the old Reading RR name on them and a few ex NYC ones also I don'...

Re: CSX on the west side of Michigan

Interesting note after checking that map from chapmaja. The siding coming out of the CSX Wyoming Yard and servicing Michigan Natural Storage on Judd St. is owned by NS. Even though it hasn't been connected to NS track since before I can remember. I believe it was built by either the PRR or NYC back...

Re: D&M / LSRC Stone Operations

The LSRC still shipped in gypsum to the LaFarge plant in Alpena until around 10 years ago. Not sure exactly where it came from. Ultimately, my understanding is that the use of flyash eventually pushed out the gypsum in cement making. I wonder if gypsum may make a comeback with the decline of flyash...

Sounds like Q116 is on the ground on the single track in Valparaiso. CN is saying at least 24 hours before the main is open, should make the south bend sub fun tomorrow. No details on the wreck really, hoping someone down that way knows what's up. On Facebook, the Valpo police mentioned crossings i...

Re: GLC Train Location Updates - July 2023

I was in Cadillac yesterday around noon. There was a group of half a dozen people and vehicles at the north end of Tufford yard. It looked like a meeting. The is also a pile of rail nearby that I had not seen before.

Does anyone know of plans for changes to the yard?
