Re: What Happened to the CSX in Flint MI?
The reason CSX hasn't pull out of Flint from what I hear is due to how lucrative the grain, coal and chemical traffic is, especially the former which is the bottom line of CSX's Michigan operations these days.

Re: Grand Trunk in Saginaw/ Bay City Question
I grew up in the township. Right next to the line that went to Paines. I remember the Chessie units with a mix of grain and scrap gons running west, then them coming back with just the gons. My only other experience from that time frame would have been the dubious chemical trains running to midland...

Re: Grand Trunk in Saginaw Question
I'll have to look into that. I was told on the Michigan Board that GTW also had trackage in the downtown area (east side of the river) but that was probably for passenger trains way back in 50's and 60's. I wonder how many trains GTW was running at the peak of their possession of the PC? There's the...

Re: Grand Trunk in Saginaw/ Bay City Question
I feel the love. You have to take into consideration that not a lot of people know the history there. All I remember growing up was Chessie and later CSX I understand. Shoot, you've seen more than I have since I was born into the CSX era where the only Chessie units were patched and those were beco...

Re: Grand Trunk in Saginaw/ Bay City Question
Zilwaukee to Bay City was abandoned in favor of the ex-MC line long before 1987, possibly as soon as 1976. If you haven't already you could also ask on the RRHX board. Or check with the GTWHS in Durand. They sometimes have copies of station maps for sale that show old yard locations. GTW also had t...

Grand Trunk in Saginaw/ Bay City Question
Since the Historical board has the life of a brick, I've decided to transfer this topic here. There's something regarding the GTW's operations in Saginaw that's got me curious. When the railroad took over the PC/Conrail lines in the area, what became of their own mainline? They didn't tear up the se...

Grand Trunk in Saginaw Question
There's something regarding the GTW's operations in Saginaw that's got me curious. When the railroad took over the PC/Conrail lines in the area, what became of their own mainline? They didn't tear up the segment from Mershon north to Bay City until 1987 when the railroad was making major cuts system...

Re: What Happened to the CSX in Flint MI?
The auto industry rolled over and died in Flint. Thus, second track not needed, and it was removed in 2014 IIRC. The second main was ripped up in mid-late 2013. CSX traffic in Flint consists of about 4-6 trains, 8 trains tops, on a really good day. Not including coal and grain trains, there's the l...

Re: Create project. New Amtrak Videos
Seeing how they plan to pull off 75th Street is the most interesting.
Grand Crossing is a minor fix compared to the many other Chicagoland junctions that are actually congested. GC at least has the major benefit of being an elevated crossing unlike most interlockings and crossings.

The location is listed on the page as: "Mehring Way just west of downtown Cincinnati" https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0974588,-84.5314774,3a,75y,309.42h,86.06t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1scTPvMMM2GZ9QtJzwSM6MhA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1 I knew the location but I couldn't find the exact place on Google Map...

Re: Saginaw Area Questions
The entire line was always owned by GM? What about the other industries serviced by the railroad further down the line and those off the river? I don't think all those customers were automotive-related. Thanks for the info on the plant's history. Would you happen to know exactly when the line was c...

Re: Questions about the Ludington Sub (trains).
Thank you everybody for the clarification on the train symbols.
As for the Grand Rapids trains not taking the Ludington Sub out to Baldwin, does anybody have any intel? How fast were trains allowed to run on the Elmdale Sub in comparison to the Ludington Sub?

Re: Saginaw Area Questions
That line was C&O property. It used to connect with the GTW (now HESR) at a location known as Brady Hill (named after the nearby cemetery) which is the area you described. The plant that is located between Genesee and Cumberland was formerly Delphi which had major presence in Saginaw throughout the...
